Bandit

Brought to you by the founders of Departure Lounge, Bandit Cafe is a brand that is born from the ashes. We worked closely with Annie and Jay to create a fresh new look for their brand while drawing attention to their selection of baked goods. Especially their signature shokupan, Japanese milk bread.

Our proposal? A playful and friendly design aesthetic that would blend well with the neighborhood in which the cafe is located. We wanted to create a cozy, retro-modern setting that played up the comfort factor.

Bandit's raccoon mascot is a wink and a nudge towards the cafe's name - inviting customers to come in and enjoy the cafe's selection of pastries and artisan brewed coffee. Also, look closely and you'll notice that the black mask worn by our playful partner-in-crime is designed to mimic the silhouette of a freshly-baked loaf of bread.

To complement the above, fun taglines peppered with bread puns such as “break(in) bread”, “wearetroublebakers”, “ban (appe)dit”, “trouble’s a brewin”, and “bewareofbandit” were created to help customers identify the cafe's brand and its marketing message.

For the menu, we decided to incorporate interactive elements for customers to play around with (it unfolds and becomes an eye mask complete with strategically-placed cutouts).

Finally, as the cafe itself is housed within a vintage SS2 shop lot, we wanted to find a way to pay homage to its history. As such, existing decor from the building's original design (such as the decorative wood and steel window grates) is used as inspiration for various graphic elements that surround the cafe's interiors and brand assets.
