This project was born out of a wonderful July the 4th celebration. I was visiting a friend in New Mexico, (I was living in Los Angeles at the time). It was an incredibly beautiful day, not too hot and no thunder storms - these can spring up quite spontaneously in this part of the country at that time of year. During our barbeque picnic we were checking out the beautiful flowers that were blooming. None of these were familiar to me as a Southern California native.

This beautiful flower stood out to me powerfully. The contrasting colors and the rhythmic pattern of the petals are very strong design elements, and were to me quite compelling.

After painting out the background using the quick masking tools in Photoshop, the image was saved as a .png with transparency. This image was then opened in Pointcarre's print design module and tossed filling the frame. The color reduction and changes were also performed using Pointcarre textile design software, (https://www.pointcarre.com/).

I cannot say enough good things about this software! It addresses all the needs of any textile designer, and is used to create prints, woven and knit garments. Pointcarre generates all the information any mill would ever need to create your textile[s].

The New Mexico Flower Pattern is quite effective across a range of applications and styles, whether it is high fashion, or casual, the pattern looks great and works well!
Here we see the New Mexico Flower Pattern used effectively in an evening gown, slacks and a comfy T-shirt!
