HI-LO smartwatch

Introduction

In this project, we had to design a smart product for a specific target area. The course was called user centred design and for this task the user would be elderly people. More specifically elderly above 65y and living independent.

To show my results the final report of this course is added to this project, in addition to this some renders and a short explanation.

The user

A lot of elderly are struck with diabetes type 2. As designers it is our job to make living more comfortable for everyone. To find a better solution than the needle and blood measure method, this project was formed.

The design proces shortly

A lot of user-tests were done to find the right place to put the upcoming device. The size of the prototypes were overexaggerated, so the discomfort would be noticeable immediately.

Out of these prototypes, the watch was preferred by all test persons, since it was the most convenient to put on.

For the rest of the project, the concept of the watch would be the main focus.

A wide arrange of models was created to find out the preferences of the elderly concerning their watch.

Once the final design was selected, this had to be turned into reality.

By using 3D print software a casing could be printed. This casing would contain a Arduino Nano that would control a LED-strip and a small LED-screen.

To give the user the needed data about their blood sugar levels and give the the proper warnings when needed. The interface of the watch was designed in a simple but clear way. Since elderly aren't that familiar with current technology. This watch had to operate ont it's own.

To communicate with the watch an app was designed using adobe XD. This app could give the children of the elders the possibility to monitor their parent health.
