Conceptual Book Cover Project

Conceptual Book Cover
This project is about displaying the concepts and themes of a piece of classic literature, while avoiding the cliche depictions that come from pop culture surrounding the book and it's other adaptations. There was also the restriction of the kind of covers to be created. One cover must be a Typography design. One cover had to feature hand-made materials. The last was Designer's Choice. The book I chose to design covers for is Frankenstein by Mary Shelly.
The Typography Cover: This cover uses only type to convey the message of theme and tone.

This cover is successful because it shows how much Frankenstein up-ended and ruined his own life through his ambition and disregard of his fellow men’s warnings.
Hand-Made: This cover features a non-digital element that I put together myself.
This cover is successful because it highlights the isolation found in Frankenstein’s life as well as the lives of many of the other characters.

Designer's Choice: This cover is less restrictive on style, so I went with a much more illustrative style
This cover is successful because it shows how there is nature, science, and poison in the man’s (Frankenstein) head, but you cannot see it clearly. Much to exhibit how clouded Frankenstein’s vision of himself becomes, and how he allows ambition to cloud his mind, and later things like alcohol and obsession over the monster drives him to insanity in a way.
