With more than five centuries of existence, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa is a private institution of public administrative utility that has guided its performance, in the community, by the defence of priceless social values, in a perspective of proximity, respect and advocacy for good causes.

The renewal made the site more intuitive, with an efficient browsing experience. The site has an innovative design and it is accessible to everyone. It is more “user friendly”, for example, the new search engine that is more intuitive, which makes it faster to find content on the website. This channel also allows a better communication of all the current expertise areas in Santa Casa, simplifying the access to information on each one.

The Association of Blind and partially sighted from Portugal (ACAPO), followed the development process of the new website, in order to ensure that all functionalities respond to the needs of people with visual impairments, who use assistive technologies, namely screen readers. All the changes followed the recommendations from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the World Wide Web (WWW) standardization organization. The organization is made up of hundreds of technology professionals and most of the leading companies in the IT market. The goal is to standardize the web technologies, in order to guarantee access to all, regardless of the equipment used, the user's physical limitations, or geographic location.
