Marisol: SFSU School of Theater

Marisol Poster and Images for SFSU School of Theater
Marisol is a play with a very surrealistic feel. The angels are at war with God, as they feel he has become a tyrant, and the people of Earth have no guardian Angels protecting them. Meaning the world has been flipped upside down; everything is on fire, nothing is the same.
Some of the initial ideas were to display the protagonists of the play which were a  woman and an angel. However after doing some research we found that they are usually used for posters and our client would prefer something a bit more different, and unique.
Early Concepts
We met with the client, and presented all of our ideas, and they decided to go with the final design. They felt that this idea conveyed the surrealistic feeling they were going for. The ideation behind the design was to display the setting of the play, which is New York City. The picture was inverted as this made it seem like it is illuminated; and it was flipped upside down to describe the state of which it is in. The color palette is used to represent the never ending fire. And the Jean Luc typeface was used because of its Grotesque style, that we felt added to the tone.
The deliverables were both printed items and Web images.
