Sumatran Orangutan

Sumatran Orangutan
Primates are our closest relatives; we evolved from chimpanzees, they share the same emotions as us, our intelligence. When photographing these orangutans I aimed to capture the same behaviours they share with us, and to photograph their emotions through their facial expressions and body language.

Orangutans, just like any other mother, are very protective of their young. They'll let the youngster hang onto the mother for the first two years, being completely reliant on its mum for food and transportation. Witnessing this Sumatran Orangutan carry and care for her 4 month old baby was a very special moment, I could instantly see the similarities between how us humans and primates take care of our infants.
