The traditional library of the late 20th century and early 21st century has been a location whose primary goal is to house books.  Lately there has been a greater exploration in what a library could mean to the community.  Cities have created hubs for the local community to meet and gather.  However, there has been a seriously lacking effort placed on the role of technology in creating a library.  Libraries remain today just a vessel to hold and store books, with no emphasis on further outreach.  Libraries need to become information centers, one stop buildings for books, internet, news, entertainment, and anything related to the local city.

In addition, the building needs to have greater outreach to the physical surroundings.  In my interpretation of this idea, I literally had the library project the latest news, weather, sports, and entertainment on to the skin of the building, creating a constantly updating billboard of news that could inform both people in the building and in the site, but also motorists on the highway adjacent to the site.

Finally, with this project I wanted to enhance the community aspect of a library.  As previously stated, this building has greater outreach, but I also wanted the building itself to serve as a community hub.  The large amount of glass throughout the building serves to highlight this, creating a visual connection from the spaces inside to the outside site.
