HOMO LUDENS
My school project 'HOMO LUDENS' was all about experimenting and playing with different materials and techniques. The objects I chose to work with were old telephones, wool and an old printer. Since I usually don't usually include a lot of bright colours in my work, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and think outside the box.
My experiments started with taking apart the printer I had. I was very intrigued by the toners that were left inside the machine. The CMYK coloured powder quickly had me thinking about making some sort of paint or paste with it. After some trial and error I successfully made pastel coloured paint. I then used this paint to stamp patterns and shapes with various parts I took out of the printer.
Other experiments consisted of rolling the toners with the powder over some old newspapers. The pictures seen below are edited in Photoshop.
After collecting multiple edits I made from various experiments I decided to remake them into something else. I realised that the result I got from the assignments reminded me of crime scene investigation shows and books which is why I decided to make book covers.
RED
RED is a photo series I made while documenting the different parts from the objects I took apart. I mentioned before that I wanted to implement more colour, which is why I decided to spice things up by using a red lamp. This resulted in the images you can see down below. While experimenting with the lamp, I realised I wanted to try something else than just photographing the objects. I made a short video in which I tried to convey the feeling I got from my experiments.
