BEING UNDERSTOOD IS AN UNDERRATED PLEASURE
A muse is a person who is a source of inspiration to an artist. This series is based on Simon Baker as my muse.  Over the last few months, while the world was going through the worst time collectively, he has unknowingly given me hope, inspired me, and made me believe in a better world. I was awestruck when I saw the first episode of his popular show ‘The Mentalist’ and there’s been no looking back. I first fell in love with his character Patrick Jane and then 7 Seasons, every possible interview on Youtube, Reading about him and his life, and viewing almost all his other works later, I fell in love with him. His story from being an ordinary guy who was pursuing medical school in Australia, to taking risks and becoming a star In L.A. is very inspiring. The title of this painting is my favourite dialogue from ‘The Mentalist’. What makes him extraordinary to me is how he doesn’t conform to the set patterns of society. He’s an extremely talented actor, an exceptional filmmaker, and a phenomenal surfer. His work-life balance something I look up to.
I’ve kept the paintings black and white to make them timeless and to capture the different range of emotions and different phases of his life. Even though it's black and white, I’ve refrained from actually using black oil paints. Instead, I’ve made each shade of black and grey by mixing different colours as a representation of his versatility. The hand-painted teal frames are a huge part of the painting and add a lot to its overall look. It represents his blueish-green eyes and his love for the ocean which I feel has never been captured on camera better than his Directorial Debut, The Breath.
