In his books the characters are indeed floating as on clouds from one book to the other, moving through the pages of text, creating a whole interconected scheme. Portrait of David Mitchell and his writing, centering around the most famous ‘Cloud Atlas’ — a book about reincarnation and the universality of human nature references a changing landscape ‘a cloud’ over manifestations of fixed human nature ‘the atlas’.
As the HOST magazine prints in two-colour the illustrations feature overprint of layers, halftone and variety of materials or textures used in the black&white spectrum.
