Introduction
This was a challenging project. I've been asked to design videos for services and procedures, but never before to explain the safety regulations and advantages of using lab equipment. Let alone in a foreign language I did not speak. But as always, know that language barriers can be broken with just a little bit of help.
Conceptualizing
Being requested to make an "explainer-video", I immediately thought of Ted-Ed videos that explain many sort of things. I took this as inspiration for one of two different styles for the video.
The second proposal called for a more isometric approach. I aimed for small isometric models showing the whole laboratory, it's machinery and components. I thought of legos when building this. Making a very "buildable" appearance might give me the flexibility to switch scenes and elements easily.
In the end, the client decided to approach a more 2D Flat style and we decided to keep the isometric ideas for some of the scenes, specifically the lab and the mechanism explanation for the valves.
Storyboard
The storyboarding was made to reflect the final animation as close as possible to the final product. Essentially, I used most of the final assets and arranged them to the corresponding scenes.
Final Product
After a couple of weeks of work, the final video was made and delivered!
