A Brief History of the World Pro Ski Tour

Michael Keefe Gorman is an experienced financial advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. He serves as the managing director and wealth management advisor in Ithaca, New York. Outside of work, Keefe Gorman is an avid skier and member of the World Pro Ski Tour.

The World Pro Ski Tour is a nationwide skiing event that features dual-format alpine ski races by professional skiers. The side-by-side races are usually short but adrenaline-filled. Former United States ski team coach Bob Beattie started this skiing competition in 1969. The inaugural events featured several US and European ski team athletes, including triple Olympic gold medalist Jean-Claude Killy and Olympic silver medalist Billy Kidd.

A racers strike in 1982 led to the departure of Beattie from the World Pro Ski Tour. In the following years, the tour's popularity dwindled, and the event disbanded in 1999. In 2017, Ed Rodgers, a successful Maine restaurateur and skiing enthusiast, revived the tour. The new tour, which attracts top skiers, has gained a large following, and its series of races are broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network.
