Sepideh Moayed's profile

The ACR Career Center

Dr. Sepideh Moayed is a California-based MSK Board Certified radiologist who focuses on managing her patients’ chronic pain through appropriate imaging, interventional joint injections when warranted and most importantly lifestyle & functional mind body medicine. Many musculoskeletal and joint problems are related to inflammatory lifestyles caused by genetically modified foods such as gluten, corn, dairy, soy to name a few, environmental toxins found in our toiletries, foods and water, smoking, drinking and/or over the counter medications such as Advil or anti acid medications. These lifestyle factors cause molecular mimickery and confuse one’s immune system. “The gut is unable to differentiate friend, food from foe and thus makes antibodies that cause inflammation and cytokine storm.” These antibodies in turn contribute toward the epidemic of autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Psoriasis and Ankylosing Arthritis. They also worsen osteoarthritis and other age related musculoskeletal degenerative processes. Although steroid and Lidocaine joint injections are helpful when addressing acute pain, for chronic pain, it’s imperative that the patient changes their lifestyle factors. Quitting smoking, reversing fatty liver through diet and exercise, decreasing intake of the number of prescription and over the counter medications, getting restful sleep and having healthy relationships can help reduce inflammation and burden of disease. Stress and inflammation reduction can help hormones and endocrine glands significantly and even lead to reversal of the aging process.
Dr. Sepideh Moayed helps her patients becomes the stewards of their own health by becoming educated and empowered. By so doing behavioral change implementation is easier and more effective. Short term goals result in pain and inflammation reduction while long term goals including dodging chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, hypertension, dementia, cancer and various autoimmune diseases such as MS and thyroiditis. Dr. Sepideh Moayed’s practice of disease-prevention medicine helps patients avoid and minimize the risk of chronic illnesses that are of epidemic proportions and increasingly a public health concern. She is a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR). The American College of Radiology’s core purpose is “to serve patients and society by empowering members to advance the practice, science, and professions of radiological care.” The organization represents almost 40,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and nuclear medicine physicians.
