Sustained Investigation #5
How can I depict space through different decades?

Idea:
For this sustained investigation, I wanted to create a vintage movie poster. I used the iconic, timeless film of E.T. by Steven Spielberg to depict this. This film was made in 1982, which fits my theme of different decades, but I mainly chose this movie because I feel as though it will live on decades on end. I also chose this film/idea because this movie's main idea is the interaction between the supernatural of space and humans, which I feel fits my theme very well.
Materials:
For this project, I used numerous images and cut and layered them together showing advanced 2D design skills, depicting my idea of space portrayal in different decades. I also used many layer effects and overlays to help incorporate paper texture and a rough-edged border.
Process:
In the beginning, I had the idea of a movie poster and E.T., but it wasn't until the end when I realised the texture and border of crumbled/destroyed paper would truly bring my whole piece together. I really liked the idea of the parallelism of the UFO's to focus in on the title of the fim. I felt as though the main city photo added aspects of vintage themes to my piece through the themes of vintage storefronts/signs and people wearing vintage clothing.
