Wetland habitats across the country have been under neglect for decades. Except for the large wetlands which have been listed under the Ramsar Convention for protecting wetlands of international importance, most of the smaller ones have become receptacles of urban waste, or have been ploughed under for agriculture or built over by urbanisation. However, all is not lost since across the country there are motivated individuals, groups and communities working on their own to conserve their neighbourhood wetlands. Link to the article.
