VARNA'LIT is an international litelature festival, held for the first time in Varna in 2017, with an emphasis on children's and youth audiences. Literature “entered” the classrooms of nearly 50 schools.
The students met with their favorite authors and had fun overcoming barriers and prejudices. Reading is something nice and interesting - beyond the compulsory literature lists, beyond the framing "must" - it can be both useful and fun.
VarnaLit has created conditions for intergenerational conversation, encouraged the discovery and development of children's creative potential through meetings, workshops and artistic performances. The festival was extremely warmly received by the citizens of Varna and well reflected in the national media.
This year, the main program will present contemporary foreign and Bulgarian authors, contributing to the promotion of reading and literature, both among children and teenagers, and with overall cultural significance. The meetings will be organized in schools, libraries, galleries, museums and various alternative spaces. The accompanying program will include discussions, screenings, workshops and concerts. The festival has become an integral part of the city's cultural program, developing as an annual and expected event, attracting the biggest names in literature and the arts in Varna, making each one of them a friend of the city and a cultural ambassador.
The Association "MLF VarnaLit" organizes the festival with the support of the Municipal Fund "Culture" of Varna Municipality, private donations and non-governmental organizations, business and more.

The background story is based on a traditioonal folk tale in Bulgaria, where the protagonist and antagonist are the boy and the hydra, and the conflict is the golden apple. As it is an old story it was good to present it as a girl, enjoying that narative, imagining maybe she is the actual hero there.
