AFERDITA Restaurant is located inside the remaining oasis of the historic buildings of Prishtina, part of Qarshia that was demolished decades ago. Although the buildings in question do not belong to any group of protected buildings, their preservation from complete demolition was the primary criterion. As such the intervention belonged to part of the architecture and interweaving in the surrounding space making it a reference point.
The main process in the design was the analysis of Old Prishtina and the finding of the ‘Spirit of the Place (Genius Loci)’ through the morphology of the area, the representative objects and the characteristic elements. Analyzes which explained to us the city, its identity and the experience of the people within it. Portico as an entrance element to public buildings; Cardaku as an element between the inside and the outside; Patterns of walls along roads; The geometry of the roofs that create the dynamic silhouette; Decorative openings following the facades along the boulevards; Colors as the identity of identifying buildings; The contour of the objects that create the 'peak' in the urban corners; Yard as an area of non-public activities.
Based on the identity of the area with the characteristic elements, a space was designed as a continuation of the identity created so far by intertwining it with contemporary elements.
