ON THE NEED FOR RESPIRATION "Post-pandemic Futures"

On the need for respiration "Post-pandemic Futures"

SUBJECT
The title of this art proposal refers to Galen's medical text (De usu respirationis - On respiration), concerning the vital human need for respiration. Taking as a starting point the ancient venues of worship of Asclepius, which are related to healing, while deriving inspiration from them as active symbols of collective memory, and on the occasion of the coronavirus pandemic, this proposal is a gesture of becoming reacquainted with our cultural past in order to plan our post-pandemic future.

DESIGN PROCESS
In order to achieve the feeling of respiration and healing the vital organs that contribute to respiration were decomposed. A heart, a lung, a stomach and a liver sketched in clean cut edgy forms.
The colors and the way they are combined, form a "map" for the rhythm and intensity of the breath. They are rendered with blurry and film grain some in order to give the feeling of diffusion, "... diffuse the constant fear of infection with the virus ...". Intense warm and cool colors are confused with each other to give capacity and the impression of healing.
The fonts in use are PF REGAL FINESSE PRO and CF ASTY STD. The word "BREATH" suffocates deliberately, expressing the strong need for healing.

DESIGN MATERIALS
For the exhibition designed a series of posters, a tote bag, and a catalogue.
