INTERVIEW WITH A SERIAL KILLER
KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY

For a recent university project I was required to create a kinetic typography video to my choice of audio. Instead of pursuing the common route of a music lyric video, I wanted to use my background in film to create a video that told a story and manipulated emotion by personifying the text.

To set myself apart, I wanted to create a video that was challenging and frightening. and so created my audio track by splicing together soundbites from a 1993 jailhouse interview with serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer. I worked to create building tension and unease through increasingly sporadic elements and timing the animation not only to the spoken words but to the tense score.

This was my first experience with After Effects and subsequently got me excited about the possibilities of motion graphics. I now work to add motion elements to all of my projects.
