Whilst working at MADE Bespoke I worked on the following facetted light design.
David Reade, a South African glass blower designed and sculpted these beautiful faceted pieces of glass. The client then wanted these to be made into a light. The following shows that process.
First, using the dimensions that the client wanted, a rough sizing and shaping was made out of a block of polystyrene.
Making the one to one scale model using polystyrene allows for a fast and easy prototype. The prototype then allows for a better conceptualizing of the other aspects.
Hanging and illuminating the finished prototype allows for a "step back" moment in which you can determine the intricacies.
Using Rhinoceros CAD software the design could be further edited and the other aspects made to communicate with the overall design.
3D printing gave nice, neat prototypes that could be pitched directly to the client.
The final piece produces a stunning light show that itself can be viewed as art.
What the final design looks like in the room. The glass is a blue green to match the fynbos foliage outside the main door.
