Project 4 - Brochure
Choose a simple childhood activity and create a 6" square, trifold brochure explaining its history, how to participate, and any other pertinent information.
Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Suitcase (font management)
Selection: Jumping Rope

Brainstorm and roughs
It was between Leapfrog or Jumping Rope. Leapfrog would have been fun to do, but is rather simple while there is hardly any history on the game. Using animal caricatures would have been time consuming as well, for they would have to be created from scratch.
I decided to do Jumping Rope as there are actual organizations dedicated to this activity and it isn't "just for kids" anymore. The plan is to have volunteers jumping rope for photographs.
Round One Submission
Working on layout and design while researching history, rules, and organizations. Also looking for volunteers to photograph is turning out to be a challenge as no one wants to participate. I even brought out my own skipping rope, but no one would "jump to it" with me. Furthermore, no one admits to knowing how to Double Dutch.
Decision to have a single rope running through all panels of the brochure takes form - helping to direct the eye through the elements of the design.
Final Submission for Grade
Simplified artwork and use of the rope for directing the eye through elements is realized. Matching the rope from inside to outside, and panel to panel while including the fold was a good exercise in mock-up and visualization.
Outside Design
Side 1 Critique
"The black things on the front - what are those?" (Supposed to be skip-rope handles - more photoshop editing needed)
Inside Design
Overall Critique
Final design is very good to excellent. Overal visual concept is strong. Illustrations are active - the meandering jump rope is especially effective at leading the eye and creating continuity. The design can feel a little text heavy and cramped in places.
