THE DELTIN (PCERF VIDYARTHI AWARDS 2019- 3rd Prize)
Design Brief:
The objective is to design a multipurpose commercial complex which engulfs the bold nature of the space giving it a dynamic and monumental character and also to attract the travellers and tourists.
To build a place which caters both employment to the nearby residents and jovial spot to the travellers.

About the site:
The site is located near JALVAYU MARG- Mumbai Pune highway.
Total area – 15000 sq.m

Topography:
It is a contoured site with a ratio of 1:8, having steep slopes on eastern and western side. The soil is rocky hence hard strata will be available at early digging.

Play of lines:
-The concept is following the behavior of lines as they tend to change the character of the space forming planes and then the volumes. Hence created a juxtaposition on a contour   site- fun shopping center and a business center. The planar in DE constructivism is creating a completely opposite character to the context, it’s not blending with the nature around,   and it’s emerging out of one.
-The idea is to drive the travellers in and serve them a spot for refreshment or become the ultimate destination.
-The steep slopes have been converted as a highlighting feature of the complex expecting them to be visited the most, hence making this design suitable for such site profile.
-Making this complex visible from a distance.
-The process was started using paper planes and composing them in a way which reflects the concept. The concept model hence prepared is on sheet no.3

Planning and Designing:
-The ground level is divided into zones of small shops, showrooms and array of small eateries – market place which is semi covered and serves as a one shop stop / refreshment in mercantile center.
-Each floor has a spillover area with a monumental scale celebrating the raw material palette and play of light and shadows.
-The game zone is placed at the back of the site with a spillover area and active landscapes pockets arounds to engage the people within different activities creating lively spaces.
-Food court is designed at the third level (top floor) of mercantile center with proper diners and seating arrangement and a connecting bridge to the business center, covered with a   space frame truss and semi-transparent sheet allowing natural light to pass by.

Salient features:
-Market place- the alley hence created on north eastern steep slope made a nice pocket of marketplace for small eateries and shops.
-The Promenade – the interconnectivity of outdoor and indoor spaces through pathways, allowing the pedestrians to circulate throughout the premises.
-Active landscape pockets- the monumental spaces overhead hence created shaded areas for active landscapes below to engage tourists in various activities.
-Raw exterior and interior material- despite being stark in character to balance out material were used in raw forms like exposed bricks and concrete to create the sense of warmth   which absorbs light and not reflects it.
