This is part of my thesis project, my thesis topic is to help American business in Chinese technology and design market place. I redesign the IDEO China's home page according to China's user research and design thinking to help IDEO attract Chinese Clients to gain better development in China.

IDEO is the world's leading design consulting company. Although its China Office is in Shanghai, IDEO China’s webpage right now is just its U.S. website’s translation version. Improving its Chinese website will contribute to the company’s image to the eyes of Chinese clients, so as to attract more users.

 

As a whole, in order to reflect the international identity of IDEO, it is necessary to maintain the integrity of the design. Elegant, concise and logical structure can improve clients’ confidence to a large extent. Design consulting companies in China are still relatively young, so how to gaining client acceptance is extremely important to their growth. 

 

After the interview, I analyze all the information and create the persona for IDEO China.

 

This thesis survey was fortunate to have interviews with the Chinese local design companies’ officers, they insisted that to attract customers in China, companies need to show their design capacity at the first glance. This is mainly reflected in the homepage, it is should make the whole portfolio understandable when clients enter. They should not need to click on the “cases” button again to enter the entire collection. IDEO China’s site should abandon the “cases” button and establish a new structure.

 

It is very important to select an area to show the entire list of IDEO is main client logos, especially these big corporate clients which are familiar to Chinese people. It can greatly improve client impression and trust of the company. 

 

After improving the site, when users enter it, they will see the portfolio as a whole. IDEO also needs to label clients’ projects’ main objectives in several sentences. Their current one is also lacking projects’ mission statements. IDEO is focused on concepts and design thinking, therefore, there are many articles’ titles on top of the homepage. However, only a small range of text is not enough to attract the users attention. It is necessary to select a block of the page appropriately to promote the IDEO design concepts and design perspective with pictures.
