In June 2017 i was invited to paint a mural at Karlovasi, a village on the port of Samos island, due to "Karlovasi Festival", curated by Yiannis Kountouris.
The surface
When i arrived, i visited the location and i was surprisingly informed
that this building was for many decades, the bakery of the village of Karlovasi.
So, i decided i could use this great piece of information as a basic reference for
the subject of the mural, a small tribute to the owner.
The draft sketch
I made a draft with a humouristic indoor scene, with two baker workers pushing the bread into the oven, a traditional procedure in a greek old bakery. The bread is getting burnt, so the smoke surrounding the room, while the baker leader is working happily the cookies. There was a time limit plus rain, so i decided to work in grayscale mode.
Mural process
I had such great time, a huge appreciation to Yiannis Kountouris for inviting me, Katerina Stavrou & Samaina Inn Hotel for taking care of us all, Eleni Margaroni & Georgia Gogolou for all process beautiful pics and all the truly warm hospitality of the locals meeting us there!
