the book witch was the greatest literary phenomenon of the 19th century tells a passionate saga denouncing the slavery in the united states. the book is pointed by historians as a key point for the start of the american civil war (1861-1865). its graphic design takes inspiration from the social and cultural context from witch it was written and seeks to emphasize the catastrophic legacy of slavery for the present times. the book design recovers real images from 19th century slavery and illustrations from the first north american editions of the book. they are mixed with silhouettes and violent brushstrokes, turning its caricatural aspect into dramatic, ironic and ghostly collages.
