House Eclectic is a multi-use home and business designed for the third year Fall term studio.
Working with a pre-existing building in downtown Winnipeg, we imagined a set of clients and their needs, including an Etsy business run from their home.
Esty and Aslan Toews are a young, progressive couple living and working in downtown Winnipeg.
Esty loves bright colour and pattern; she is an artist and spends a lot of time in her home studio. Aslan is an avid novice chef and gardener who favours dark woods and natural tones. Esty and Aslan hope to have children and pets in the future, anticipating a lively household alongside their growing business.
Esty and Aslan run Langside Candles & Co., a handmade luxury candle business incorporating home-grown prairie flowers and herbs.
Based on their workflow (above), the couple requires spaces for designing the candles, growing herbs and flowers, candle production, packaging, storage, and a photography space.

The space is an intuitive combination of life and work, with the ground floor dedicated to candle production, packing, and distribution. Flowers and herbs used in candle making are grown in the couple's backyard garden. The remainder of the building functions as the home, including space for cooking, entertaining, resting, and creating.
Ornate and unique details are prioritized as a strong sense of the couple's eclectic character is reflected in their living spaces. Warm, cozy spaces conducive to moments of quiet are juxtaposed by lighter social areas for spending time with friends and family.
