Pen Tool — Low-poly Count Self Portrait
My approach for this project was simplifying the image as much as possible, creating only the necessary polygons for the facial features to read. Every polygon was created one by one using the pen tool and the snap to point function, and then sampling the color of the area from the original photo. There were parts of the portrait where I had to make some decisions to have the forms read, especially when the sampled tone created a weird effect, like an indent where there wasn't one in the original photo. It truly felt like sculpting with geometrical shapes.
It was essential to set my "snap to point" setting so that I could carefully start every new shape right where I finished the last one. I decided to showcase a bit of the dress patterning. I also opted to remove the hands, since it didn't add to the portrait, and it would also be hard to read what it was with such low poly count.
