Crosswords App - Razvedrilo

I was asked by Emigma, company I used to work for a while ago, to design a mobile app for crosswords. Client allready used the brand name "Razvedrilo"  (translated: entertainment) for their analogue products - crosswords printed on paper. This project was all about expanding their service to digital medium, starting with an app for iPhone and iPad. My task was to refine and rework the given wireframes, construct a solid user flow map and design an attractive and logical user interface.

Sketching

Initial sketching is more or less allways was the part I start the job with. It helps me understand the project easier. Numerous variations were drawn by hand on paper and then presented to the client. After approval I moved on forward to creating user flow diagrams.

Defining user flows

A task that took quite a lot of thinking and a lot of procedure drawing. The purpose of defining and refining user flow lies in a wish to offer the best possible user experience.

Icon design

Since Razvedrilo© brand allready existed, my initial idea was to simply take the starting letter R (typography used for the logo is relatively recognisable) and construct a simple icon from it. I later added a pattern background made of randomly placed square shapes which represented the crossword fields. Eventhough it turned out ok, I later decided to use an actual crossword image and thus visually approximate the idea behind the icon.

Illustrated elements
As I wanted to keep the general feel playful and fun, some icons needed to be designed. I aimed for well colorful, detailed, semi realistic approach that would suit and be recognisable by various types and ages of users.

I was later on trusted with a task of creation of a website to present the application. Website only had one purpose: as a landing page, it's goal was to convert interested visitors to application users.
