Contagion (Infectious Disease Card Game)

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, some people were panicking while others were at a loss as to what was happening due to a lack of understanding of such infectious disease outbreaks. We conducted a survey with 300 youth participants from Singapore, and found out that 50% of the population are unaware of public health campaigns in Singapore despite living here. In addition, 40% of the population are not well informed on infectious diseases.
This shows that there is a lack of societal education on infectious diseases among the youths. Perhaps traditional methods of educating youths on infectious diseases are not effective in making such information appeal to them.
This is where we saw an opportunity, to make learning of infectious diseases fun and engaging. To equip children and youths of all generations with the knowledge to react when encountered in a situation of disease outbreaks.
With that in mind, we decided to create a card game targeted at youths aged 12 and above.
Contagion
Contagion is a quick 3-7 player game that allows youth to take away key learning points of infectious diseases while having fun with their friends and family. To win, player must either be the first player to discard all symptom and disease cards or when all other players in the game have lost. Players will lose if they accumulate up to 3 diseases.
Our Team
We hope that through Contagion, youths can be better equipped with the knowledge required to respond in the case of an infectious disease outbreak and practice precautionary measures to prevent disease transmission.
