My goal with this project was to provide a set of unifying guidelines for the ZingSoft brand and its family of data visualization brands. When I joined the ZingSoft team as its sole designer, there was no clear style guide or set of brand guidelines for the ZingSoft brand, nor for the ZingChart brand. The ZingGrid brand had a style guide, but no set of brand guidelines.
The first thing I did was research design hand-off tools that work well with the developers on my team. We selected Figma because of its collaborative strengths, and I proceeded to design and build a set of website design guidelines there. I also implemented this design system within ZingSoft's team in Figma, so that anyone on my team creating design projects in Figma has a predefined set of typographic and visual styles to choose from. I also created a set of illustration components for each brand which can be reused by the team in Figma.
My second priority involved standardizing the language the ZingSoft team uses to communicate in marketing and customer support contexts. I did this by creating a brand language guide that included a set of taglines and features/benefits for each Zing brand, scripts for commonly asked support questions, etc.
My third priority was to standardize the creation of marketing materials for the various Zing brands, including blog imagery, ad imagery, and additional miscellaneous imagery (e.g. page preview thumbnail meta-tags). I did this by leaning on Figma's Teams functionality, and by relying on the design system I built for my team. This allowed developers on my team to get their hands dirty making marketing graphics as needed, which helped to prevent bottlenecks at times when I was overwhelmed with other work.
