Presidio Public Library in San Francisco, CA

The project is an Extension  of the Presidio Public Library and  was inspired by the feeling of infinity and alternative dimensions that was experienced during a moment at my case study at the De Young museum.

The design focuses on basic colors that create a playful game, overlapping each other as they combine and instigate the imagination of the library’s user, influencing them in a mysterious and magical way and transporting them to another world.
Formally and experientially, the library resembles a book, with the mirrored, translucent exterior giving away nothing of the story within. However, once you enter the central corridor, it leads you to openings where you can glimpse mysterious and magical spaces for reading, like when reading a great book. The openings in the walls and paths between them allow the possibility to enter through the walls of the colored boxes and become part of the imaginary world of books . Once inside, you experience and discover new bright, rich color combinations and sensations coming from different points in the surface. A feeling of infinity and the possibility of alternative dimensions are created.
