Twilight Milky Way Photography
Skyscapes between Day & Night
The repeating transition between day and night is a soft moment with a remarkable cultural and poetic impact far beyond any vampire stories. During previous Astrophotography trips, I consciously focused on this short period where the stars and Milky Way started to appear very pale in the soft twilight sky. Average Light Pollution articifically outshines these moments, but in Dark Sky Sites like Tenerifes National Parks or the Mountains of La Palma you can discover and take impressive images of this vivid transition.
To discover the night just start at the beginning - during twilight and the admirable play of light you probably all know. To prevent this beauty and return to a more natural relationship with darkness and the night sky, you can easily check the purpose of light in your home or property and share the knowledge with your friends and neighbors. It’s an important part to protect the environment and the habits of animals and insects that have been evolutionary shaped during the centuries. Protection is easy because light pollution - unlike other forms of pollution - is reverseable. That doesn’t mean you have to turn off everything - here are the 5 Principles of Responsible Outdoor Lighting from IDA and IES:
1. All light should have a clear purpose.
2. Light should be directed only to where needed.
3. Light should be no brighter than necessary.
4. Light should be used only when it is useful.
5. Use warmer color lights where possible.
