This editorial project reflects on the role of monumental cemeteries in the modern era and humbly aims to start a conversation around a new interpretation of these places. Starting from an anthropological study of the relationship between human and death, the document retraces the historic steps that made monumental cemeteries the places we know today and tries to suggest how they could be in the future. Monumental cemeteries were built to be cultural sites where people go venerate eminent figures of the past. Today the problem is that there are no structures that allow the correct fruition of this immense knowledge and the most of the heritage unfortunately remains hidden. This document explains which are the design disciplines we have today to valorize monumental cemeteries and tries to make the reader thinks on how these places could be lived by both visitors and people who mourn their relatives without been intrusive with one another.
