Project Brief - Hotel, Nairobi
In this group project, our goal was to renovate a hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. In order to create a unique experience for our guests, we decided to take inspiration from the nature and culture of Nairobi, but at the same time make it modern and fun.
We were a team of 3 people working on this project, and each of us in charge of one room in the hotel:
Bedroom (Desirée Ky)
Reception (Anton Edberg)
Restaurant (Maja Cederborg)
Background Information
This hotel is located on Moi Avenue 8 Nairobi, Kenya which is a well known, major road inside the Central Business District of Nairobi.
Moodboards
Nairobi is well known for their bold, colourful and creative patterns, which were taken to account while creating the interior of the hotel.
The colour palette was mainly inspired by the nature such as warm and earthly colours. To make it more fun and youthful, sky blue and forest green was added in the surface.
For the interior, we used natural material like wood and concrete. We also took some inspirations from the local Maasai markets, and decorated the interior with some handmade plate and rattan lamp.
To summarize, our goal is to make our interior Nairobi inspired but with a modern, urban and fun take on it.
Process
When designing the bedroom, the goal was to give my visitors a calm, welcoming and warm feeling when they walk into the room.
During this process, I experimented with different colour combinations, prints on the bedsheet and different materials.
