Mural Art in Merano, Italy

Having returned to my hometown Merano after spending the last years overseas I wanted to leave my mark in this town with something that I loved to do. The mural art in Merano wasn’t particularly prolific and, after seeing a German artist painting a panel in one of the alleys, I decided to approach the council to ask if there were any vacant walls that I could paint. After seeing my sketch, the council welcomed the idea and allowed me to paint the racecourse wall, which is visible when you arrive in Merano by train.

The mural project was supported by the local youth center Tilt who found a few other artists that came along and painted other murals as well. The project was a total success and local residents asked us to paint the whole wall. I particularly loved this project, from the painting process to the happiness that this brought in many people’s lives. The mural pictures two of the main landmarks in Merano, the bell tower of the St. Nicholaus Church and the Kursaal, the cactuses and tropical plants are also a very distinctive feature of the particular climate of this town.
