Columbus City Utilities
Columbus City Utilities in Columbus, Indiana was in desperate need of a redesign on their yearly water quality report. We took what was once an in-house published tri-fold brochure to an 8-page publication. This report is a direct mail piece, and is delivered to every person who receives services from Columbus City Utilities each year.
I really wanted to lighten up the content and provide more breathing room in this report, and did that in a variety of ways. I also wanted to make it more visually appealing to people, so the first spread features a timeline of how Columbus City Utilities was formed.
The center spread features the main content, the water quality table. This is required by federal law to be sent to each household that receives water services each year. In the past, the table was just copied from Excel and pasted into Publisher, but I wanted to make it much more visually appealing, as well as fit in with the branding better.
The last spread is home to the rest of the required text, but also features photos of both water treatment plants in Columbus, as well as a photo of one of our most iconic pieces of architecture – the Robert N. Stewart Bridge.

The back cover features a call out to "watch for our crews" as Columbus is entering a new era of water works, and working to replace and upgrade a lot of the water system. These two employees were great to work with, and were excited to be on the back cover of the report.
Each year, we also produce a calendar magnet for the three billing cycles, to mail to customers. This one featured a calendar on the front of the mailer, and a magnet on the back.
Last year's mailer was a little more complex. It was a folded mailer, with a magnet stuck
to the inside right panel. Customers could pull the magnet off and use it.
