RnS Landscaping Services Logo Redesign Process

I was asked by RnS Landscapping Services to redesign their logo to make it look a bit better while still keeping it mostly the same style. Their colours were important and the way the current logo was shaped was important. They were looking for a cleaner logo that looked a bit more professional.

This was my design process.
This is the oriingal logo that I was asked to redesign.
I wanted to match the bars at the top and bottom to give it a solid block look, however it turned out to be a bit too blocky.
So I reduced it a bit and found that it looked a bit better.
I was playing around with a few other ideas at the time (see below the final design) and I grabbed the tree element from that design and placed it on top of the prevous design.
It was decided that the yellow outline of the old logo be brought in to help keep the same feel. I tired to merge the top bar with the letters and the bottom bar, but it looked a bit weird and it didn't work, so we popped out the letters to sit in front of the bar in the final design.
The final design.
This is a version with a transparent background instead of the yellow background colour.
These we some other sample ideas I was toying with before scrapping them.
Even though this wasn't the final design, I do enjoy how clean this logo feels.
RnS also do winter snow removal, so they asked for a varient that has snow on their logo.
We decided that people would "get" that the tree is part of their logo and decided to keep it in the snow design, even though it still technically has leaves on it. All of the leafless trees I tired to apply made the top of the logo look dead an barren, which isn't want you want for a Landscaping business. This is the final version.
This was a quick version I tossed together as a proof of concept. We scrapped it after finding it too silly.
