The Shadow Temple
This is a collaborative project with Gingerwork Productions, a Vietnam-based innovation company. It is a permanent installation in Da Lat, Vietnam, The structure is symmetrical and self-similar with a rotating light (shadow source) emulating the outer structure (shadow catcher).
The pattern design used for the cut-out surfaces is informed by the base geometry and is also symmetrical. The lights are programmmed to reveal both shadows emanating from the rotating suspended core and the backlit surface panels of the outer structure.
Because ef the shared iteraions between the core and outer structure the shadows and lights dance in and out of alignment and juxtaposition. Finding the balance between detail and a well-defined framework drove this project to it's final form.
