What is Luna & Nova? 

The project is powered by a 2-times Artist Grant by the German foundation "Stiftung Rheinland-Pfalz für Kultur" in 2020.

The interesting thing about this project is its very nature, it is a novel kind of story-telling. I paint images non-related to each other based on a set of original characters and the viewer can tell their own story if they like...

There is Luna, A mysterious girl with horns - at the time of developing the characters, it all starts out with her having lost her memory and she is in the process of getting it back... 

Nova - the flying cat with bat-like-wings has found her on the dark side of the moon and never left her ever since. The cat-like-creature is an inter-dimensional being and has the ability to scale things as she touches them...

Then there is Schroedinger, 2 demons banned into a Scythe but they are so powerful, they can morph into anything they can see - except when they experience stress then the process is doomed to go wrong, which turns to interesting side-stories. Together they are one hell of a team ;)

The characters inspire a specific kind of wanderlust and a sense of wonder. While inspired by the old masters, Video games and rooted in the Fantasy-Art-Scene, with every new piece a complete new universe unfolds that allows for 100 of stories. 

This project allows me to create the paintings I want to do, but not because they are story-driven, but rather because they can drive the story further by still being independent from each other. From an artistic point of view, this bears an unprecedented potential of freedom, while still maintaining originality.

For the second Artist-Grant, I built the figures in Zbrush, rendered them and also made a 3D-printable version available on thingiverse and Artstation.
