The third stage of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant consists of the technological configurations of the 5th (the 5th unit of the Chornobyl NPP) and the 6th unit and new cooling systems in the form cooling towers. The construction of the 5th unit of the ChNPP was stopped at a very high degree of readiness of the facility itself. If not for the accident on April 26, 1986 at the 4th block of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant 5, the reactor would have been put into operation in November of the same year. At the end of May 1987, the final decision was made about the complete conservation and shutdown of the construction of the third stage of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
