THE SEASON OF SINGING

Acrylic and Chalk on Canvas
16" x 20"
This developed out of an experiment one night where I wondered what would happen if smashed up a bunch of old sidewalk chalk and stuck it on a canvas (very sophisticated). As it started to turn into something more concrete, I became increasingly inspired visually, by Klimt, and meaningfully by a passage from Fr. Konanos’ The Garden Inside:

“Nobody is as sublime as these flowers are. Even King Solomon of the Old Testament, in his regal clothes, wasn’t that magnificent. Such pretty-flowers, so simple and free-growing. And what do flowers do? They surrender themselves to the light, to the oxygen. They look at God. They look at the sun. They look and absorb the rays of light.”

Ah, to live in such simplicity!
