PRAKASH TALKIES – Display typeface

This goes way back to my childhood in the '80s when we used to visit Belgaum during summer vacation. We used to watch a lot of movies and use to have a lot fun with friends and family. It's nostalgia now to see the same theatre standing tall for so many years.

As a growing teen and youth, I always loved the way “PRAKASH” was written on the building. Never thought then that I will be in the communication design field. The unique and simple geometrical typeface makes it visible from distance. As a designer, I always thought that the typeface must have been made like that due to the installation problem at that time.

It is squarish in nature and has minimal curves in it. Today looking at it as a typeface designer, I have developed all the alphabets keeping available characters in PRAKASH. Had no printed reference to follow as a grid (the place is closed due to COVID pandemic). Took a few pictures from ground level. It is installed at approximately 40ft from ground level.

Prakash Talkies Private Limited was incorporated on 17 August 1944.
