The firm todobarro presented to designers Damián López, founder of Leblume, in Málaga and Carlos Jiménez a new idea and way of working. The main goal was to design two new collections that, while keeping the philosophy of the brand, would present a new and different style from the rest of the existing catalogue. Each designer should find his own perspective and concept proposal.

“When we started looking for inspiration, we both decided that we could think about Málaga, where todobarro was born and where all the pieces are handcrafted.”

Versatile and with endless POSSIBILITIES
This irregular structure is perfect when trying to simulate the randomness of terrazzo. Apart from these tessellations, these pieces allow people to create many other patterns, that go from geometric compositions with vintage feelings to others more classic ones with new detail
There are 4 different tiles that, depending on colors and positions, can create endless tessellations
BRINGING THE 80s COSTA DEL SOL AESTHETICS BACK
“When looking for inspiration about this, I was always ending up in references to the TV show Verano Azul, which was filmed in Nerja by that time. I watched some episodes and I started thinking about the idea of terrazzo, really common in those days.”
The Nerja collection consists of 4 irregular geometric pieces, two triangles and two trapezoids. When these shapes are combined together, they can create 10 different irregular polygons.
Even the collection is composed by 4 different tiles, some compositions can be created with just one of them.
Design process
After the first sketches, molds for the prototype phase were 3d printed. Then, the terracotta is prepared and the artisans make the pieces by hand. After that, pieces need to dry for several weeks before they are fired for 7 days in an Arabian oven. This means that, to see the first prototypes, we need to wait around 40 days. With these pieces we could check that we could make the pieces but we had to change some small details.
Thank you very much!
