Life is like a ballet, there are ups and downs, joy and chaos, sorrow and despair.

These days things seem to be crashing down all around us.

I love dance and I wanted to to show it's beauty and fleeting nature in a personal CGI project.

A dancers movement lasts only a few milliseconds. Ice melts, the tide comes in, the sun sets.
The other dancers have all fractured, melted, ending their show.
Our heroine attempts one last jump, she's coming apart...

Life is precious.
I used 3D scans of ballet dancers as a base to work from. I used several tyFlow tools to slice and fracture the geometry into bits and pieces, a bit like broken bits of ice you'd see washed up on the shorelines of Iceland.

I built a CGI environment, volcanic sand for the beach and some rock cliffs in the distance. I then scattered the geometry around the scene and tried to find an interesting composition.

Rendering was done with Redshift at 10k on a single RTX 3090 GPU. With all the complex diffraction and multiple layers of ice GPU rendering was the only way to go.
Thank you
