The Houston Downtown District started the WindowWorks to transform vacant and inactive storefronts along Main Street through local artists. I had the pleasure of creating this mural celebrating Houston icon, Marvin Zindler.
The Inspiration
If you grew up or lived in Houston anytime between the late 70s and early 00s, you knew who Marvin Zindler was. Locally he was famous for being an investigative journalist specializing in human and consumer's rights along with his entertaining restaurant report. Nationally, he is most famous for breaking the La Grange Chicken Ranch story made famous in the ZZ Top song "La Grange" and the play "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas." While his loud personality got a lot of peoples attention, his heart is what made the city fall in love with him.  He was a champion of the common person and supported many charities. When tasked with a mural to celebrate Houston and bring some positivity downtown, I chose to do a portrait of Marvin with his Friday night signoff catch phrase "Have a good weekend, good golf, good tennis, or whatever makes you happy."
