Adobe Community Fund | Review

To sum it up, the Community Fund is a monthly program to which you can apply until May 2021. You can find everything you need on Adobe’s page, so I’ll focus on giving you this gentle extra push to *actually* apply!
Are you a creative from an underrepresented
community? Apply for a grant. Now.

Last year has been particularly challenging emotionally, economically and politically. Our unique voices, experiences and perspectives matter, and amplifying them should be the stepping stone to building a kinder, better world. We deserve to be heard. We deserve to get paid to tell our stories.
What to expect when you apply? What's happening
when your project starts and after it ends?

I know it can be scary. You might not feel like you’re good enough. You might be scared of rejection. All those fears are valid, but I’m here to beg you to do it. As a grant recipient, I’m going to share below what it was like for me, and hopefully you’ll see that the whole process is way less frightening than what you have in mind.

The process is *much easier* than what’s needed for the annual program. Be clear about your goal and how you plan to achieve it, but keep in mind that there’s a lot of room to change things up and adapt your project size to the grant you’re given.

Don’t sell yourself short! You don’t need a huge following or a stellar career to get accepted. A good portfolio and a plan can do the job. At least, that’s what got me there.
Once you know how much you’ve got, you know how many days you can afford to spend on your project. Focus on what is doable and carefully plan out your work.

You’ll be surrounded by fellow artists and past residents you can reach out to through Slack. Take a look at what they’re doing, take advantage of Adobe’s free webinars, get to know others. This is also part of the experience!

Ultimately, the Community Fund is what you want to make out of it. You won’t have to do anything more than sharing your results with Adobe if that’s what you want, but you will be able to enjoy many other opportunities as a fund recipient! The main one being sticking around on Slack to meet new cohorts of artists monthly.

Thanks to the fund, I made some friends, I got invited on Adobe’s Youtube channel a few times, and I shared my experience with The Design Kids, on top of working on a deeply personal project.
