Let Them Eat...Single Post
My latest project, creating Still Life collections by combining valuable collectibles together with everyday and contrasting items.  Some of these items often, in monetary value, known as cheap fakes. These images then are turned into oil paintings in Photoshop.
This image featuring a marble bust of Marie Antoinette as the prime source of inspiration.  She is adorned with the addition of a pearl and diamond necklace, as well as a 1930's silk shawl that drapes over the top of the antique copper water kettle that is not clearly showing.  The large copper pot holds a fresh cut cabbage, trying to shield its face from the viewer, as if it did not want to participate in this farce.  Added new onions ( in another antique copper pot) and turnips with greens added both the green contrast and the white to bring the color through the design.
Then there is the "cake".  A double layer of store bought French Chocolate Mousse Cakes with a few pomegranate pips scattered on top.  The cake is displayed on a cake stand purchased from a popular catalogue, claiming it to be the favorite tea service of the late Queen Mother of England, the former Queen.  The cut and opened pomegranate was added to the 'heart' of the grouping.  Long green beans add tremendous undercurrent in the center of the image.
On the left hand side is a gilded candlestick with lit red candles.  At the base was added a small grouping of radishes to repeat the reds throughout the collection.  Next to the base of the candlestick you will find the cut ends of bitter cucumber, to create a feel of distaste for the viewer.
Giving Marie Antoinette something else to relate to, a collection of heavily gilded stemware pieces were added.  And... the obvious glittering 'jewels'.
Enjoy finding all of these items.

Thank you for spending time with us.
