Seven Creative Strategies for Excellent Design

The following seven images explore using different creative strategies to discover new and exciting ways to look at a simple household item. For my compositions, I decided to use a button.

Buttons are deceptively simple--small, round, and uncomplicated. However, the more I considered them, the more struck I was by the world of contrasts they represented. A button on clothing is an age-old solution to fastening something, but buttons are also used in the interfaces of the most advanced technology. They are the means to closing things, but also the means to open them. To be "buttoned up" is to be stiff, to be "unbuttoned" is to be free. It's such an interesting contrast and I wanted to explore it further using different creative approaches.
