After the sunset I was able to arrive at McDonald Creek away from the crowd. Because this is the middle of summer in Glacier National Park, the amount of people that come to this location during the day tends to be an issue. This time I was lucky to be there alone with my wife, son, and a couple of his friends. The water flow is definitely lower this year, which makes the cascading water much more fascinating. Normally you have to wait until September for the water level to be low enough to access the creek side to capture this perspective. I had heard form one of the park rangers the water levels were low and I knew this was the place to be. Once I was able to setup, I discovered I had a bit to much light for the flow, so I used a 3 stop BW ND filter to slow my shutter and soften the falling blue glacier water. After several exposures I was having dynamic range issues trying to get the correct exposure. I ended up merging 6 1 stop exposures and going HDR. I really wasn't sure if this would do the trick for this image, but with the threat of lower light, I had to get the shot I came for. I hope you like my images and would appreciate your comments and support.
